Do You Need a VPN for IPTV in the UK?

It's one of the most common questions we get: do you actually need a VPN to use IPTV in the UK? Here's a straightforward answer.

Short Answer: Not Required, But Recommended

Strong8K's servers work directly with major UK internet service providers, so a VPN isn't required for our service to function. That said, there are still good reasons some users choose to run one alongside their subscription.

When a VPN Helps

  • ISP throttling: Some UK ISPs slow down streaming traffic during peak hours, especially on weekends during major football fixtures. A VPN can sometimes help bypass this.
  • General privacy: A VPN encrypts your internet traffic, adding a layer of privacy from your ISP and network.
  • Public or shared networks: If you're streaming on a shared WiFi network, a VPN adds extra security.

When You Can Skip It

If your connection is stable and you're not experiencing throttling or buffering, there's no need to add a VPN into the mix — it's an optional extra layer, not a requirement for our service to work.

Choosing a VPN: If you do use one, pick a provider with servers in the UK and strong speeds — a slow VPN can introduce more buffering than it solves. Avoid free VPN services, which are often too slow for reliable streaming.

Setting Up a VPN With IPTV

Most VPN apps run independently of your IPTV app — simply connect your VPN first, then open your IPTV player as normal. There's no special configuration needed on the Strong8K side.
